Gransfors Bruk Rare 3lb Single Bit Montreal Pattern Forest, Boys Axe Single Bit GBA Crown Stamp, Poor 1/2 impression, missing upper Crown, Made in Sweden, And 3 Stamp, #3 should indicate 3Lb. Boys or light forest axe handle, 27 5/8" overall length, Rare weight for the small handle 6 7/8" tall 4 5/16" blade length along the cheek, 2 3/4" x 1 1/4 Poll peen, a little narrower on the ends..
2 7/16" x 3/4" Eye 3 lb 15.6 oz total weight.. (on my scale) and corresponds with a 3lb head with average handles this size near 1lb..
Measurements may not be exact Nicely cleaned up, nice ground edge with good even bevels and profile, a little off or uneven on the heel and toes.. Poll peen edges and top cleaned up,, Probably didn't have much mushrooming, but is still flared on the sides, If wasn't already when was new, Some minor hammering marks on the polished top, Lightly polished sides leaving black forge and hammered imperfections. Nice Handle not the same shape and diameters from end to end, eye area changes from roundish sides to flat and tapering on the long side to rounder straighter at the rear narrowing smallest where kicks flares to the deer foot.. Hard to find a handle shaped the same today.. A work of art and craftsmanship..
Some minor chipping or scuffing on the end as well as pounding on the flat from setting the head. A few nicks in the front near and behind eye, a little chewed up on top,,, still nice condition and aged patina with no significant checking. (or none really) Handle was a just little loose when I got this and been pounded on a far as will go, (Only went 1/8) and a steel wedge installed as well as a wood sliver wedge on the point of the eye where looked like had or still has part of a nail in it... Still looks a bit loose or has a gap on the outside,, hickory wedge went in an inch + before broke off,,, My steel wedge was 7/8"-1"L and didn't appear to close up any gaps after installed..When pounding it on, figured If I pounded it more, was going to mushroom the end of the handle if kept hitting it as hard as was.. Handle still shows gaps on both ends of the eye, mostly in the top areas, but doesn't appear to wiggle when chopping and sticking hard, near stuck into a log end, does flex a lot though... More so on the handle than at the eye.. And more of an indication for good shock resistance from handle shape than loose... Might want to soak it, if you think is still too loose or gets it,,, but I don't think is going to be a problem as is for chopping, Only might come up trying to split wood it doesn't have the weight for..
And when is near stuck. This not an axe for splitting big wood anyway... Should be 3 1/2 pounds minimum and have longer handle...It'd be a shame to replace it and is not replaceable with anything the same unless you have or find a stash of them somewhere, So go to all other methods to keep it working when might come looser or prevent from it... Water, oil, maybe an extra longer? I can't, won't guarantee head tightness because sometimes handles dry out more after packaged.. Priority parcel may be a little cheaper than Canada Post..
Be sure to Ask Questions to make sure I've covered everything you need to know in the description, (Or all I know) and what might not be obvious in the photo's, Otherwise I Usually describe everything anyone needs to know and what to expect getting. Most buyers find my items meet or exceed their expectations.
The Automatic Canada post calculator is usually always wrong in the buyers favour or only a small amount in mine.. So refunding the difference when using it...
Also might not have online tracking available to the same International countries as Canada post... If you think an item is a good deal with the Canada Post automatic rate, will be even better if qualifies for a discount.. But not all the time. And Tracked Packet is not available to as many Countries as Xpress is. It's usually too expensive...Once leaves me to an address other than direct, Is the buyers responsibility..
