Brass Accents and Brass Face on Wear Plate. Note that I can't read any markings on the tool, but I believe it is made by Stanley by the characteristic design and brass insets. 6" from brass face to end of ruler and other is 3" from brass face to end of ruler. Both show minor signs of use and some wear. For the most part, it appears that the darkening and oxidation is more likely from many years of lack of use and/or years of storage.
There is discoloration, scratches and other small imperfections. However, given the age the wood is in good cosmetic condition without any significant damage (mostly finish/varnish loss). The writing and numbers on the ruler are hidden by the oxidation and it is very difficult to see them. The corners and edges show little to no wear. These are still in good usable shape if you don't need to read the numbers. Unknown Maker, 7-1/2 Punch Awl or Bull Pin maybe?? I do not clean these old tools so I can't see any maker's marks - if there are any. This tool appears very old in style, workmanship, and aging. It was used as a punch (and was likely the intent) as evidenced by the hammer marks on the steel head, and on the tip flattening. This tool is unique in that it also has inlaid pinned wood sides in the handle portion likely to dampen the vibration of the hammer blows - and iron from tip to head (see pics). The wood appears original to the piece - and shows its significant age. It has some wood loss, chipping, and surface smoothing/shine from use. Unknown Maker, Brass Hammer with 8-1/4 Wood Handle. I can't see any maker's marks on this one either - if there are any.The brass head measures 2" long, by 3/4" diameter at its widest. One surface of the head is round, and the other has flat sides. The total hammer weight is 4.3 ounces (Head + Handle).
This tool also appears quite old by the patina, aged wood, and the brass oxidation. The wood handle is very dark from age, and has one moderate chip at the base, and other minor dings and minor scratches. The brass head shows some flattening from use - but not much, for its age.
